Brew Review: North Coast Brewing Co. Cru D’or
Belgian style ales are becoming more popular as the style itself becomes more accessible and is being brewed increasingly more by American breweries. Today I am reviewing the organic Dubble Cru D’or.
This brew has a nice sweet malty aroma with hints of spice and it pours very silky and smooth with little to no lacing or head to be seen. I generally enjoy my Belgian brews to be a bit funkier and fruitier but this is a great ale for the newbie to this style and pairs well with most fare. The taste is very malty with sublte hints of fruity esters and thelegendary classic Belgian yeasty taste.
As this brew starts to warm more floral notes appear and at 8% ABV makes for a nice drink during these colder months. I tend to stay away from the darker Belgian-styles because in my experience they tend to have more notes of banana and clove, which I personally don’t think I will ever get used to or desire.
The nice deep clear copper color also gives this brew a taste of sophistication and one can see the hard work that went into producing a style such as this. The Cru D’or is also part of the new wave of certified Organic brews to hit the scene, by using organic malts. This beer is a delicious treat to have during these cold crisp nights and I will definitely drink more of these throughout these upcoming months.
